She Leads – Training materials

Our Data, Our Voice: An introduction to data-driven advocacy for girls and young women advocates.

Equal Measures 2030, together with Restless Development, have developed a series of training modules on data-driven advocacy for girls and young women advocates. The modules provide a comprehensive introduction to data-driven advocacy that can be easily localized and adapted to enhance the data skills of young advocates.

The training modules, which are in the form of a facilitators guide, provide conceptual tools designed to boost the capabilities of girls and young women, girl-led groups, and young feminist organizations.

The content encompasses critical aspects of data-dri*ven advocacy, including understanding key data terminology, identifying relevant data sources, and techniques for effectively communicating data findings. Each section of the guide is thoughtfully enriched with youth-focused activities, interactive exercises, and engaging discussions.

The ‘Our Data, Our Voice’ facilitator guide consists of three modules:

Module 1:

Data-driven Advocacy. This module provides a basic understanding of what data-driven advocacy is; outlines how data is used at each stage of the advocacy cycle; and highlights what GYW advocates should keep in mind when using data to influence decision makers.

Module 2:

Where and How to Access Data. This module provides information about various sources of data, and guidance on how to identify relevant data sources at the global, regional, national and local levels.

Module 3:

Data Storytelling and Communication. This module includes understanding what to consider when using data for storytelling and how gender advocates can effectively communicate their “ask” with data tailored to their targeted audience.
