GROOTS Kenya, Equal Measures 2030 and Data2X Partner to Launch the Kenya SDG Gender Index 2024
Grassroots Organizations Operating Together in Sisterhood (GROOTS Kenya) in partnership with Equal Measures 2030 and Data2X launched the Kenya SDG Gender Index 2024 themed ‘Accelerating Progress Towards Gender Equality by 2030.’
Eunice Wanjiru representing the Executive Director of GROOTS Kenya called upon stakeholders in the country to champion on matters gender equality.
‘Gender data is a valuable resource in achieving gender equality,’ said Wanjiru.
‘The only way to close the gender gap is to do all that we can to achieve a just, equal,inclusive and transformative society,’added Wanjiru.
The 2024 SDG Gender index covers 139 countries, 96% of the world’s girls and women and 14 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.It includes 56 indicators capturing gender-related measures across the 2030 target.
Kenya is ranked position 109 out of 139 globally and position 10 out of 36 regionally in achieving gender equality.
Amina Jasho from Equal Measures 2030 mentioned that it is important to place gender equality at the heart of policies.
‘To achieve gender equality,we need to strengthen women’s representation in leadership,implement legal reforms,invest in public infrastructure and services and create a supporting environment for women and girls,’added Amina.
