Global Index Finds No Country is Gender Equal – IISD
3 June 2019: Equal Measures 2030 has released the 2019 SDG Gender Index, which finds that nearly 40% of women and girls, or 1.4 billion people, live in countries that are “failing on gender equality.” The Index reports that the world is furthest behind on SDGs 5 (gender equality), 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), 13 (climate action) and gender equality issues related to gender data and public finance, under SDG 17 (partnerships for the Goals).
The index report titled, ‘Harnessing the Power of Data for Gender Equality: Introducing the 2019 EM2030 SDG Gender Index,’ examines the state of gender equality across 129 countries. The Index features 51 indicators across 14 of the 17 SDGs and 51 targets linked to gender issues. The Index ranks countries on a score of 0 to 100.
